Sultan Ahmet Mosque

Ponder upon Al-Wali’s creation in the magnificent Sultan Ahmet Mosque also known as the Blue Mosque due to the blue tiles of its interior. This striking beauty was built by Sultan Ahmet I from 1609 to 1616 facilitating up to 10,000 worshipers. It consists of an enormous dome with six minarets shooting towards the sky. Stick around till sunset to witness the beautiful façade of the mosque against the pinkish orange background. It will be a scene worth a million pictures. The walls of the mosque are covered in intricate patterns of gold, blue and beige. Windows aligned from top to bottom allows sunlight to pass through illuminating the red carpet. Small lightbulbs hang from different parts of the mosque shedding light on the worshippers and the meticulously designed walls. The mosque is open to Muslims and non-Muslims alike and was even visited by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. Now it’s your turn! Praise the Al-Khafid while gazing at the gorgeous mosque built to honor Him.
