A peaceful island retreat where rooms sit among the palms, days unfold beside the water and wonderfully attentive staff make you feel at home. Our stay at Rebak Island was one of the loveliest ways to slow down in Langkawi.

There is something special about arriving at a hotel by boat. As we made our way across the water to Rebak Island Resort & Marina, the journey itself became part of the holiday. By the time we reached the island, we were already looking forward to exploring.

That feeling stayed with us throughout our visit. Rebak has the sense of a private sanctuary, somewhere removed from everyday distractions where you can properly focus on enjoying your break. From the moment we woke up, the island was ours to explore at our own pace.

An arrival that feels like part of the holiday

Boat Ride

The boat ride was a fun start to our stay, with lovely views along the way and life jackets available for everyone. Arriving through the marina, with boats on the water and greenery beyond, gave us a memorable first glimpse of Rebak.

A buggy ride through the grounds followed, along with welcome drinks and cool towels. It was a lovely introduction to the island and to the hospitality we would come to appreciate so much during our stay.

Our room among the palm trees

The accommodation is tucked among palm trees and tropical planting, with timber details and leafy paths giving the grounds plenty of character. Walking to our room was a pleasure in itself, with so much greenery around us.

We stayed in Room 211, which included a double bedroom, a second bedroom with twin beds and a separate sitting area. There was also a bathroom with a bathtub. The layout gave us distinct spaces to sit and sleep, a practical advantage when travelling as a family.

What we particularly liked was the setting. Being surrounded by trees helped carry that relaxed island feeling right through to the accommodation.

Pool days and beautiful sea views

The swimming pool is a lovely focal point of the resort, with palm trees around it and the sea just beyond. It is the sort of setting that makes an afternoon with very little planned feel like an excellent idea.

Pool

We also appreciated the generous opening hours. During our stay, the pool was open until 11pm, giving guests the option of enjoying it later in the evening as well as during the day.

There is plenty to enjoy along the shoreline too, from beach walks to places where you can sit in the shade and look out across the water. The sea-facing gazebo was a particularly pretty spot, with curtains framing the view and flowers adding colour. It was one of those corners that made us stop for another look.

Plenty to do at your own pace

For anyone who likes to keep active, Rebak offers walking and nature trails, tennis, beach volleyball and a fully equipped gym. There are also games areas, including a pool table, along with reading corners, a small library and a spa.

That variety is part of the appeal. You can build a day around exploring and activities, or take things slowly and enjoy the surroundings. There is enough here to keep you occupied without feeling that every hour needs a plan.

Dining that became a highlight of our trip

Food was one of the highlights of our entire Langkawi trip. Senari Sea View Restaurant is the main all-day dining restaurant, where we returned for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there was plenty of choice across our meals.

Breakfast included freshly prepared eggs, fruit, breads and other buffet favourites. Later meals brought a mix of rice dishes, pasta and fish and chips, followed by desserts that were rather difficult to resist. There was even a little tableside theatre as serving covers were lifted to reveal our food.

Dining became something we looked forward to each day. The food was a real pleasure, and the familiar faces welcoming us back made the experience even better.

The people who made our stay special

The staff (especially these 2 terrific gents) deserve a special mention because they added so much warmth to our time on Rebak. They were attentive, friendly and always ready to see how they could help. A welcoming smile at the start of a meal can make such a difference, and we received plenty of them here.

Seeing the same team at breakfast, lunch and dinner gave the restaurant a lovely sense of familiarity. They got to know us as a family, remembered what we liked to drink and became familiar with our favourite dishes. Those small details made us feel cared for throughout our stay.

It is this personal side of hospitality that we remember long after a trip. The views were beautiful, but the people gave the place much of its warmth. Saying goodbye to the team at the end of our visit was certainly one of the harder parts of leaving.

Island evenings and marina views

As evening arrived, the resort took on a different atmosphere. Lights around the restaurant and lounge, illuminated trees and the paths through the grounds gave us another side of Rebak to enjoy. The setting remained just as appealing once the daytime views gave way to the evening lights.

The marina also brought something distinctive to the stay. With yachts on the water and tropical greenery around it, it offered another lovely place to pause and take in the island surroundings.

Our verdict

Rebak Island Resort & Marina gave us exactly the sort of break that is easy to appreciate: time together in beautiful surroundings, enjoyable meals and staff who made us feel welcome every day. The accommodation among the palms, the pool and the views all contributed, but the friendly service was especially memorable.

We would particularly recommend it to families and couples who want to settle into an island stay and enjoy a slower pace. If you plan to head back to the main island of Langkawi for outings, check the boat transfer arrangements when organising your day. For us, arriving by water was part of what made Rebak feel special.

We left with some lovely memories and the hope that we would return. Rebak made it wonderfully easy to switch off, enjoy our holiday and feel looked after along the way.
