A spacious, family-friendly city hotel whose standout advantages are its practical accommodation,
worthwhile Club Lounge and direct indoor connection to Berjaya Times Square shopping mall.

A highly practical base in central Kuala Lumpur

Some hotels win you over with cutting-edge design; others impress through sheer practicality. The Berjaya Times Square Hotel firmly belongs in the second category. It is fabulously positioned for families, with large rooms, extensive leisure facilities and direct indoor access to one of Kuala Lumpur’s biggest shopping malls. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was a hotel designed to make a busy family stay feel easier and it worked like a treat.

The sparkling lobby is bright and polished, with statement floral displays, comfortable seating and a warm mix of stone and wood finishes. The reception area is broad and clearly organised, with multiple service desks and a defined queuing system designed to manage the number of guests using the hotel.

A family room with space to breathe

Our family room came with a king-size bed, a bunk bed for two children and two armchairs. The accommodation was more than large enough for four people—and we even managed comfortably as a family of five. There was space to move around, sit together and unpack without the room ever feeling crowded, which is a real advantage when travelling with children.

The main sleeping area is generously proportioned, with comfortable bedding and bedside lighting.

The rooms are a little tired-looking in places and would benefit from a refresh, but they remain large, comfortable and highly functional. The only notable compromise is that the family room has one bathroom. For a bigger family this can occasionally require some coordination, although it was a manageable inconvenience rather than a major problem.

The hotel’s Family Funcation package is particularly appealing for guests travelling with children, combining family-friendly accommodation with added experiences and benefits.

The Club Lounge is worth the upgrade

The Club Lounge without doubt proved to be one of the highlights of our stay. We chose to have breakfast there each morning, preferring its calm and relaxed atmosphere to the considerably busier main restaurant. Tables were always readily available, allowing us to begin the day at an unhurried pace.

We also returned during the early-evening service, offered from approximately 5pm to 7.30pm, when freshly prepared hot dishes were available. During our stay, the Club Lounge menu followed a vegetarian concept, but the choice never felt restrictive. As someone who loves chicken, I was surprised by how little I missed it—the vegetarian dishes were genuinely enjoyable, varied and satisfying. There were also colourful sweet treats for the children, free-flowing drinks throughout the day and a bean-to-cup coffee machine.

Throughout our visits, the lounge remained peaceful, getting a table was never an issue and the staff were exceptionally attentive. The service was incredible and added a welcome sense of exclusivity to the experience. Suite guests and those who opt for Club Lounge access should make full use of it; for us, it was easily worth the upgrade and we highly recommend adding this to your trip.

Leisure facilities

Swimming pool

The outdoor swimming pool is another major asset, particularly for families. It is one of the largest hotel pools we have swum in while visiting Kuala Lumpur, with multiple areas in which guests can spread out and enjoy the water. Its curved layout, decorative water jets, cascading features and tropical planting make it feel much more interesting than a standard rectangular city-hotel pool.
The poolside menu also offers plenty of choice and makes this a lovely place for a relaxed lunch while the children continue swimming. On one afternoon we were caught in heavy rain, and the staff immediately appeared with umbrellas and attentively helped everyone back inside the hotel. It was a small gesture, but one that spoke volumes about the service.

Gym

The gym is considerably better equipped than the compact fitness rooms found in many city hotels. It includes Cybex resistance equipment, a Smith-style weight station, adjustable benches, dumbbells and additional exercise machines. A mirrored open area also provides space for stretching or floor exercises, while the large windows bring in natural light. It’s also conveniently located near the swimming pool.

Direct access to Berjaya Times Square

The indoor connection to Berjaya Times Square shopping mall is one of the hotel’s most valuable practical advantages. A clearly marked entrance leads directly between the hotel and the mall, placing seven floors of affordable shopping, restaurants, cafés, fashion, beauty and healthcare facilities virtually on the doorstep. There is even an indoor theme park, making the location particularly appealing to families. What more could you want?

This direct connection makes spontaneous meals, shopping trips and family timeouts effortless, without having to arrange transport or contend with Kuala Lumpur’s heat and rain. Guests using the Family Funcation package currently receive 20% off admission to Berjaya Times Square Theme Park.

Getting around

The hotel’s central position also makes travelling elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur remarkably easy. Grab is the most popular ride-hailing option in Malaysia, and every time we requested a car it arrived at the hotel lobby within just a few minutes. Whether heading out for sightseeing, dining or another part of the city, the process was straightforward and convenient.

Family Funcation package

Families planning a stay during 2026 should consider Berjaya Times Square Hotel’s Family Funcation package. Available for bookings and stays from 15 May to 31 December 2026, the offer starts from RM800 nett for two days and one night, or RM1,350 nett for three days and two nights.

Overall verdict

When it comes to location, Berjaya Times Square Hotel is difficult to beat. It is not a flawless five-star experience, and the rooms show their age, but they are large and comfortable, the swimming pool is exceptional and the direct access to the shopping mall is second to none. These are meaningful advantages that make a real difference when travelling as a family.

The Club Lounge was the biggest treat of our stay. Its calm breakfast setting, attentive service, vegetarian hot dishes, sweet treats and free-flowing drinks created a much more relaxed experience than the larger restaurant. We would strongly recommend adding Club Lounge access. For families who prioritise space, entertainment and convenience in central Kuala Lumpur, Berjaya Times Square Hotel remains a very compelling option.
