The nature walk at Berjaya Langkawi Resort offers an immersive and captivating journey through the resort’s stunning rainforest, and it quickly becomes a highlight for anyone who takes part.
Our walk was led by Iqram, a full-time naturist, with the walk being a blend of education and adventure, lasting around 45 minutes and providing a window into the incredible biodiversity that surrounds the resort. It’s a truly unique experience that brings guests face-to-face with the wonders of Langkawi’s natural environment.
Starting early in the morning, just before the heat of the day sets in, the walk takes guests deep into the lush greenery that envelops the resort. From the very beginning, Iqram introduces participants to the resort’s lively mascots—the playful Dusky Leaf Monkeys.
Our guide’s insights into their behaviour were both fascinating and practical. He explained that the monkeys, as omnivores, are incredibly intelligent—so much so that they can remember guest schedules! He also reminded everyone of the importance of coexisting responsibly with the monkeys, advising against feeding them sugary or salty snacks that are harmful to their health. Additionally, he gave a valuable tip: avoid making direct eye contact or smiling with teeth, as these actions might be perceived as a challenge by the monkeys. This early lesson in respecting the wildlife set the tone for the rest of the walk.
The experience only deepened from there. Guests were fortunate enough to encounter a troop of dusky leaf langurs and marvelled at the sight of seasonal durian trees, which bear fruit from July through September.
The diversity of wildlife was awe-inspiring, with Iqram providing detailed explanations of everything they encountered. One particularly memorable moment was learning about the cicadas—those noisy insects that spend years underground only to emerge and sing in a deafening chorus by evening, adding an atmospheric soundtrack to the rainforest.
Iqram’s expertise extended to larger creatures, too. He pointed out a small monitor lizard, an apex predator that hunts birds and even baby monkeys. Spotting this formidable hunter in its natural habitat was a powerful reminder of the delicate balance within the ecosystem. They were also treated to the sight of a flying lizard, an extraordinary creature that glides from tree to tree, using its wingspan to survive in the dense forest. Up close, it was a delightful discovery, showing just how diverse and fascinating Langkawi’s wildlife can be.
The walk wasn’t only about animals. The flora was just as captivating, with one standout being the Fishtail palm tree. This impressive plant spreads its greenery in untouched areas of the rainforest, and Iqram warned guests about its spores, which can cause skin irritation. Along the way, they also spotted spiders, flying lemurs, and even some bats sleeping high in the trees—adding to the sense of wonder and discovery that defined the entire walk.
The resort’s commitment to preserving the rainforest and protecting its native species was also a key theme throughout the walk. Iqram explained how Berjaya Langkawi Resort takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, implementing rules to protect trees over 150 years old and employing full-time naturists to safeguard the local ecosystem. This dedication to sustainability was impressive and reassured guests that the hotel is invested in the long-term health of its surrounding environment.
In conclusion, the nature walk at Berjaya Langkawi Resort is much more than just a leisurely stroll—it’s an immersive and enlightening experience that offers a deep connection to Langkawi’s rainforest. Guided by Iqram’s vast knowledge and passion for nature, the walk leaves participants with a greater appreciation for the beauty and fragility of the ecosystem. For anyone staying at Berjaya Langkawi Resort, this nature walk is an absolute must. It’s a perfect way to start the day and an unforgettable journey into the heart of Langkawi’s natural wonders.
